Still City: The Shadow Lounge
Culture: “ the customs, arts, social institutions, and achievements of a particular nation, people, or other social group.” - Oxford Dictionary.
Over 20 years ago, visionaries Justin Strong and Tim Guthrie established a one-of-a-kind cultural hub in Pittsburgh, The Shadow Lounge. This unique space brought together artists, creatives, and like-minded individuals, leaving a lasting impact that has yet to be replicated. Hundreds, if not thousands, of local to major artists like Mac Miller and Wiz Khalifa cut their teeth in this venue at the corner of Baum Blvd and Highland Ave. This documentary delves into the cyclical narrative of its birth and its subsequent ending, narrated and reflected by the creators Justin and Tim.
For 21 years, Pgh artist and filmmaker, Native 412, captured and documented Still City's vibrant creative and cultural community. The Shadow Lounge segment is one of over 17 mini-documentaries combined into one major film, each unveiling a unique and rarely-seen story of contemporary Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Now, in 2024, these stories will finally be revealed. - N412
